Founded in 1492, Cantina do Mori is the oldest wine bar in Venice (which is WOW in itself). It’s one of those rare places that firmly feels like you’ve stepped back in time without seeming gimmicky or overly touristy.
The soul of Cantina do Mori is probably maintained thanks to the owner of the bar who is incredibly welcoming. The first time I went there we started chatting, his son was about to start university in Milan. We ended up talking about the rental market, safety in a big city like Milan, etc. I remember feeling like I had made a friend when I finally walked out the door over an hour later.
Besides getting a glass a wine (or two or three), you can also get a selection of cicchetti which are small tapa size plates featuring traditional Venetian dishes. I’d strongly suggest you try the Baccalà Mantecato (whipped smoked cod), and the moscardini in mano (moscardini are a sort of baby octopus). The mini tramezzini sandwiches called Francobolli (stamps) should also be tried.
Expect to spend around 2-4€ per small plate of food and 3-6€ per glass of wine.

If you're an Italian Wine Geek and Lover of Wine Bars, and drinking Italian Wine, then the Wine Bars (Bacari) of Vencie will be your Ultimate Heaven. Wine Bars are special places, and there is no place on Earth that has Wine Bars quite like those in the enchanting city of Venice.
The wine bars (Bacari) are unique to the World. They serve wine of course, and local Venetian Wines as well as wines from the whole of Italy. Along with the wines, these wine bars serve assorted Cichetti, which is the Venetian dialect, meaning "Small Bites" ... The Cichetti are quite tasty and diverse, ranging from little Italian Sandwiches, Salumi, assorted Italian Cheese, Seafood, and crostini topped with a mermaid of toppings, sure to please.
The whole idea and concept of Venetian Bacari (wine bars) is to have a glass of wine (or two), and order a plate of assorted Cichetti that you pick.
Usually, you will decide on the wine first, then look over the Cichetti displayed on the counter (bar), and you tell the bartender, I'll take this, one of those, this and that one, and the bartender puts all that you have ordered on a plate in front of you. You sip your wine, nibble the cichetti, and chat with friends. And when you are finished, it's likely you make your way to another of your favorite Bacari (wine bars), go in and do the same, order a glass of wine, and your Cichetti.
This is know as Giro d Ombra, The Wheel of Wine" as a glass of wine in a Venetian Wine Bar is called "Ombra" meaning Shade, as when these Venetian Bacari first started in the 1600s, they were frequented by merchants of the Rialto Market, who wanted to get out of the Sun and into some shady area, and so a glass of wine has been called Ombra ever since.

VENICE
It is the oldest Bacari in Venice and it is said that it was also the place where the young Casanova gave his first date to his beloveds. Even today it is among the most popular bacari, thanks also to the attractive décor with demijohns and branches in sight, as well as the multitude of reviews in tourist guides around the world.
Precisely because of this great international popularity it is frequented by many tourists and we can also find important wine labels that are accompanied by a well-stocked choice of meatballs, croutons and sandwiches, as well as the specialty of the house: the stamp, a small sandwich well stuffed with ham, egg, gorgonzola, shrimps and much more.
The restaurant has two entrances: generally the foreigners enter from Calle dei Do Mori where the management is more formal; if, on the other hand, you want to mingle with the Venetians, you have to enter from Calle Galeazza where the Oste Sergio manages his part of the stall with courtesy and passion.
Feel free to ask for the shade of the house and you won't be disappointed.
